Another car: Flooded Saabaru (Saab 9-2X Aero) aka WRX Wagon

Well, I got a pretty good deal on this car after it sat outside for 60” of rain in Hurrican Harvey in Houston in August 2017 and flooded up to the dash.

What a deal!

What a deal!

Okay, maybe it’s not quite as grim as it might seem in that photo.

Not too bad? Right?

Not too bad? Right?

So strangely enough, this was actually my brothers first car, a 2005 Saab 9-2X Aero, which is the same as a 2005 WRX Wagon with some slightly different sheet metal. It’s an EJ205 2.0L turbocharged flat four with a 5-speed manual and all-wheel drive.

My brother owned it until 2013, then my friend Nik (owner of the shop I’m doing all this car stuff in) bought it, then Nik sold it to a friend, then his friend left the country, then he sold it back to Nik, then it sat at Bush Intercontinental Airport while Nik was in Europe and flooded, then he sold it to me.

I’m neck deep in the 600hp Datsun 280Z project right now, so it doesn’t seem too smart to add another project car.

Well, that’s true.

But, my friends are going to the track without me and I wanna go. So I’m going to try to whip this into a race car.

It hasn’t been driven since the flood, but Nik and his wife pulled the interior out before it had a chance to get too moldy and funky, so that’s good.

Weight savings?

Weight savings?

There are a couple modifications on the car already: SSR wheels, a COBB Stage 2 tune, uppipe and downpipe from Crucial Racing, Whiteline anti-roll bars, and an AEM intake.

Needs a warsh.

Needs a warsh.

It doesn’t have seats, which keeps it from being drivable, but it does start and move around in gear. There’s a decent sized list of things that need done, but my friends’ race cars are also inoperable at the moment, so I have a bit before the next track day.

Thanks for reading!
